This small but resilient flower usually blooms from October to December, covering the mountainsides and valleys in purple and pink.

The buckwheat flower season in the old Ha Giang rocky plateau – now part of Tuyen Quang province after the boundary adjustment – is the most beautiful time of the year, attracting a large number of tourists to come and admire. The flowers usually start blooming from the beginning of October, blooming most brilliantly at the end of October and lasting until the end of December, depending on the weather conditions each year. All over the mountainsides, hillsides and fields, the small, fragile but persistent flowers bloom, covering the gray cat-ear rocky area with a mesmerizing carpet of pink, purple and white.

What makes buckwheat flowers special is the magical color change in each blooming stage: when they first bloom, the flowers are pure white; when they are in full bloom, they gradually turn a light pink; and when they are almost gone, the whole field is dyed in a deep red, like the transformation of the mountains and forests in the breath of winter. That is why people say that admiring buckwheat flowers is not only admiring the flowers, but also enjoying the "breath of time" in the far North of the Fatherland.

Ideal time and place to see flowers

Early October: Flowers are newly blooming, pure white and clear, suitable for those who love purity.
Late October - November: When flowers bloom in full bloom, pink and purple colors spread across the mountain slopes - the most ideal time to take photos.
December: The flower season ends with the Buckwheat Flower Festival, where visitors can immerse themselves in folk games, Khen dances and colorful fairs.

Famous flower viewing spots that still retain their pristine beauty
The communes of Pho Cao, Sung La, Lung Thau, Van Chai, and the Lung Cu – Ma Le intersection in the old Dong Van district; the Suoi Thau and Pa Vi Ha areas in Meo Vac; or Quan Ba Heaven Gate, Thach Son Than, Tam Son… are all popular coordinates. Along Highway 4C and the Ma Pi Leng pass, the colors of flowers blend with the clouds, sky, and mountains, creating a spectacular scene.

Unique cultural and culinary experiences
Not only a scenic destination, buckwheat flower season is also an opportunity for visitors to learn about the lives of the Mong, Tay, Dao, and Giay people. They grow flowers not only for beauty but also to process into typical dishes and drinks such as fragrant and sticky buckwheat cakes, warm buckwheat wine, or fragrant rice paper powder.

Nowadays, although a part of the flower land has been merged into Tuyen Quang, in the hearts of tourists, the buckwheat flower season is still always associated with the beauty of the ancient Ha Giang stone plateau - where the small but proud petals stretch out among the rocks and mountains, symbolizing the strong vitality of the people of the border region.
