Every year on the 4th day of the Lunar New Year, Tuyen Quang city organizes a boat racing festival on the Lo River. Boat racing festival is one of a series of cultural activities of Tuyen Quang City Spring Festival to introduce to people and tourists from all over the world a traditional cultural beauty of the people of Tuyen.
The festival not only attracts a large number of visitors, but also has many competing teams. There are 13 teams in 13 communes and wards of Tuyen Quang city participating, each team has 30 athletes, including 4 reserve athletes. The process of the competition is that each racing team has to go through a race on the Lo River, from the old Nong Tien ferry to soi Tinh Huc and back with a length of about 3 km. Before organizing the competition, the Organizing Committee will inform each team about the rules in the Racing Club, how to calculate points as well as the regulations in the Racing Club.
Boat racing on Lo River comes from the traditional sport of swimming. This is a sport that developed very strongly in the North after the Bach Dang victory of our army and people in 938. Up to now, the Boat Racing Association on the Lo River every early spring has become a unique river festival, autumn. attracting a large number of people and tourists from all over the world to attend, contributing to creating the cultural identity of the land and people of Tuyen.
